Parkway Festival Spells Food, Fun Saturday
The Platte River Parkway Trust Fall Festival is Saturday fromnoon to 5 p.m. at Crossroads Park on North Poplar Street, next toMike Lansing Field.
Begun in 1992, the Parkway Festival started as a celebration ofthe completion of the newest section of the Platte River Parkwaycommunity trail. Today the festival is a much-anticipated communityevent that brings people down to the river along the trail systemfor a variety of activities.
All proceeds from the festival will support the work of theParkway Trust.
“In years past, we have directed funds toward particularprojects. From 2007 to 2009, all of the money went to finishing theTate Pumphouse. This year, we are directing proceeds to the supportof our organization. These are tough economic times, and we’retrying to ensure we have money in the bank to continue to do ourwork,” said Angela Emery, executive director of the Platte RiverParkway Trust.
Emery said it “is amazing,” that the event is now in its 18thyear, and credits the hard work of the all-volunteer board asmaking it possible.
This year’s festival has a little something for everyone,including a barbecue lunch prepared by local (if only for a day)Masters of the Grill, tasting of microbrews from around the RockyMountain region, live music, a parkway raffle, family funactivities and the Casper Rotary Club’s Duck Derby.

“This is truly a family event,” Emery said. Family fun optionsincluding the Balloon Man, face painting and an outdoor natureactivity led by Jess Ryan. She’ll lead families on a “WildlifeSensation Exploration,” taking a short walk and explore wildlifealong the Parkway using all of the senses. The adventure will endby stretching out with some outdoor family yoga and fun games.
The microbrew tasting is made possible by Western and TetonDistributing, and regional brewers Alaskan Brewing, Big SkyBrewing, Blue Moon Brewing, Boulder Beer, Bridgeport Brewery,Deschutes Brewing, Grand Teton Brewing, New Belgium Brewing, O’DellBrewing, Sierra Nevada, Snake River Brewing, Snowy MountainBrewing, and Wyoming State Brewing. A 12-ounce microbrew will cost$3.
No Parkway Festival is complete without live music. Chad Loreand Free Bier are back again this year, as well as Tom Coryell andthe Incorrigibles. Cool Walter will also be part of the musicallineup.
New to the festival this year is a parkway raffle. Tickets are$5 (or five for $20) for a chance to win two round-trip AllegiantAir tickets to Las Vegas, a big screen TV/DVR courtesy of Best Buy,or a $100 gift certificate to Sol Shoes.
The festival is also the home of the Casper Rotary Club’s GreatDuck Derby. Ducks are released from Jonah Bank and “swim” toCrossroads Park, where they are expected about 4:30 p.m. onSaturday.
